Oxford Film Festival is proud to support the new Black Girls Rock! Event with VIP passes to the two Rising Leaders of our Community Award.

Kesha Howell-Atkinson and Kesha Borum are forces to be reckoned with in the Oxford Community. Both natives of Oxford, MS and graduates of Oxford High School, they have come together to lead their community in a host of ways.

Kesha Howell-Atkinson, daughter of the late Ulysses Howell, has now taken his place as the new Alderman for Ward 4. Kesha Borum will be running for District 3 Supervisor on November 3rd. These two ladies will be honored as the recipients of the Rising Leaders of our Community Award in the first Black Girls Rock! Awards ceremony, a ceremony dedicated to honoring the influential African American women in the community. The ceremony involves voting and selecting nominees from different categories, and awarding them for their service to the community. While there is only one winner chosen per category, these ladies are all winners. The honoree for Queen of the Year award will be Queenie Barnes, as she has also done so much for our community through education.

The Black Girls Rock! Event, hosted by Chasity Nicole of House of Hollywood Productions, will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 4pm at the Oxford Conference Center. Red carpet walk will be at 3pm. The theme is All Black Affair. Tickets are $20 general Admission and $30 VIP, which includes front row seating with the nominees and entrance to the pre-party celebration on Friday, August 2nd at 8pm, which is themed Margaritaville. The pre-party will be held at the Oxford Masonic Lodge.
